    Summer Vacation

So, some stories about my trip down to see Ginny....where to start....oh, the boat.

I've no idea where I was but it was somewhere in Missouri. So I'm driving along and slow down because traffic has slowed down; lots of pretty lights flashing ahead. I notice that there is a nice boat sitting in the median, pointing down the median as if someone just pulled up and stepped out, except there isn't any water in this ditch-like median strip. Then traffic got out of my visual path and I saw there was the trailer, sitting in the median as well, and a couple of smushed vehicles sitting on the other side of the road. I suppose it's lucky that no one got hurt and a tribute to the other drivers that only two vehicles were involved. And yeah, someone else's vacation is ruined now.

I got out of St. Charles at 4:18 am, after 4 hours of sleep. There are no monitored rest-stops on the hwy 63 path, so I was forced to find a shady place at a road side rest when I finally got so tired I was endangering people. 30 minutes of snoozing, in a locked car with windows barely cracked, and I woke up drenched in sweat and with head pounding. Maybe not such a good idea.

Ginny and I went to see Pirates last night - much better the second time. We ate at her favorite chinese buffet, watered her plants at a friend's house, then enjoyed the antics of Jack, Will and Elizabeth. I was in my room by...10? Chatted a bit via IM and eventually fell asleep.

Woke up at 5:03. Ha! Body knows what it wants, lol. Really now, I'm on vacation. Finally woke up at 8:30, had a bit of a swim and breakfast, and am cleaning up now for a day at my brother's place.

Plans are that tonight we go to Branson, spend tomorrow there, leave Monday morning, I buy Gin some groceries and leave her behind while I try to connect with my mother in Springfield. Leave Springfield to see how far north I can get that night, and complete the journey on Tuesday.

Stay Tuned for More Exciting Adventures!

    Catching back up

This is one of those posts of silliness - I got up and finished a load of laundry rather than working out today. So I still need to do these weights but I'll have to do them tonight - almost time to get ready for work.

I've been working on a geteld this week. It's one step towards a period encampment; I've also bought a tripod and proper, small pot and griddle to hang off that tripod for cooking. Need to talk to Van about building chests next to put stuff in. I at least want a board to use as a surface for cooking, next to the tripod which will be in front of the geteld, the period geteld I built to inspire me to be more authentic.

    Time for shower! Laters!

    42 Minutes

Completely circled the hill this morning. Between 2.5 and 3 miles...forget the exact length. Very warm - 82 degrees in living room. SELCO's airconditioning is going to feel great!

    Updates to Projects List

I was able to delete 'Food for Dub-Dub' and 'MOAS Report.'  And I added a couple - like Lyulf's Hat-O'Smilies. I'll get the first smilie on there this afternoon and post a pic, OK? All these tasks are SCA-related. Imagine that.

    Hot

We are under heat advisories today again - got to 105 heat index yesterday. So yesterday I walked 3 miles earlier in the day, and today pulled weeds and then did the weights outside. That was interesting - at last Thursday's fighter practice, during my very first bout, my back just started throbbing. Not like I'd pulled muscles but like I was asking it to do movements it wasn't designed to do. And during stretch-out yesterday, I could feel it releasing. The walk caused that same pain to come back.

So I'm moving and lifting and twisting, the sort of dancing-stretching that I use with weights, and then start in with the weights themselves, and I can hear crackling in the spine.  I NEVER hear that. It's freaky.  I went ahead and completed a workout and am sitting here considering a walk.

    Yeah! Workout done!

I got 32 minutes in this very muggy morning.I think the humidity must be at 110% as it's dripping off my face so. Straight jog/walk and mostly walking.

    Van's Birthday

Had a good day, celebrating Van's birthday. I went shooting with him this morning, and did improve by the fourth magazine. Had to get a feel for what he was telling me to do and what I needed to do, stance-wise and hold-wise, to control my shots.

Only did a mile jog/walk this morning, expecting to have a fighter practice from noonish - 3. But that was cancelled.

So we picked cherries for the wine we are going to be making. Then went to the mall to pick up protein mix, went to Superman Returns with Isaiah, ate Mexican fast food and came home. Started the packing for Dub-Dub late this evening; the chicken is cooked now and the tubs gone through! Laters!

    Catching Up

So I'm catching up from the last couple of days of running around Minnesota. Got to see some new country up in western Minnesota, have a nice visit and drive around a couple of places I've not ever been and might not ever go again. And left the camera in the bag!!  I'm such a goof.

Got home to pick a whole lot of cherries...I'm making wine out of them, I think. I should have enough to get a couple of gallons of wine, esp if I mix it with apples. Cherry mead does sound wonderful but takes too long to age - cherry ale would be ready to drink in a couple of weeks, though, too. So not sure what I should do, except pick and freeze them for ease later in pitting the darn things. Got two gallons of cherries in the freezer.

Isaiah has a new apartment; moves in on July 4th with help from Van and I and who knows who else?  He's got a little one bedroom which will have all the usual rooms - kitchen area, living area, bath and bedroom and various closets. He's very pleased to be taking this step. We are going to provide some things, like a tv and all those first sets of paper products and condiments for his fridge. Cleaning supplies.

Ginny called after her first day of work at Hardy's in Rolla. She's not coming home between the breaks so I'm going down there on July 28 or whenever her last day of finals are so we can have some time together. Whatever else, the vacation will include a trip to Silver Dollar City. Or a float trip...maybe *and* a float trip. Not sure yet. Putting this in here so I don't loose it -it's a good deal.

Van turns 59 tomorrow and is really weirded out by this birthday. So if you know Van and want to assure him he's the same person tomorrow that he is today, tell him so. It's a celebration, not something to be dismayed about.

The Shire is gathered at Martin and Brenna's at a big party, an SCA moot, this weekend. So I'm going out tomorrow afternoon to fight a bit, after going out with Van to shoot tomorrow morning. Then in the late afternoon, Isaiah and Van and I are going to Superman as part of his birthday.

And I'm starting Lyulf's hat tonight!  Go Me!
