I started to fall into that whiney, making excuses mind frame today. The one where you start feeling sorry for yourself cause you just can't help it and thus it's not really your fault. Ever been there? I have. This episode was about not having worked out for almost a week, and then poorly. So I get into the cycle and guess what? No one really feels sorry for me.
I was all abashed and came home to jog 25 minutes; faster than I've ever ran before, and longer at the running times than ever before. In the evening, a time I didn't think I had anything in me to give compared to what I can do in the mornings. Live and learn, I guess.
I'm working on a red tunic, an over-tunic to go over a white (you guessed it) under-tunic. But now I don't like the trim I was going to use...hum...
Carboyed the wine. Even though I've a gallon and a half of wine, I've only got a gallon carboy and then five gallon carboys which are so too big. So, that extra half-gallon is chilling in the fridge. It's really tasty and tested out at 15% alcohol, so I'm not wasting it.
Do you blame me?? I've drunk enough new wine, that beaujolais nouveau that is so popular this time of year.
I was walking by the grapevines this evening, checking something in the garage, and idly snipped off and ate one of the abandoned grapes. It tasted good, grapey and sweet. I'd expected them to all be bad; the prime time for picking was last weekend, I'd thought. Seems they had just been sitting there getting sweeter; the sugar within that one grape was high enough to make my fingers sticky. So...I picked them. Got enough for a gallon, maybe, and then had Van pick up some distilled water and frozen grape juice to be sure we had enough grapey goodness for a gallon in the final fermenter.
We are going to let the wild yeast ferment this batch. Why not? It's an experiment that is costing a few hours of my time and a couple of cups of sugar and less than five dollars of bought juice and water.
I'm all energized. We're watching another episode of Rome, the HBO series, and I'm just surfing.
I just got back from a really good fighter practice - had fun fighting with Liz; yeah, also good to fight the guys but Liz and I were having fun with the hips twisting and placing shots and talking it through. I was able to teach her some of the stuff Roisin taught me and Liz agreed it felt right.
So why do I do all this? I need to remember that one of my long term goals is to loose some weight and build muscle and learn to take care of the only body I'll have in this life. And the fighting is providing a reason to continue to work on that goal. Added benefit is some great people share a love of fighting and in this arena some people are more apt to open up and share than in others. Truely, some people have opinions about everything and are not shy about sharing <grin> and I learn from those folks as well. But the good people who fight are worth getting to know and I'm honored to fight with them.
I got to sleep in today and wow - needed that. Now that this is updated, I'm going to go clean and squish grapes and get that started for the year. Just the concords so it'll be a very small batch, but that's OK!
